Development Manager
The Development Manager is a full time, non-exempt position at Real Change reporting to the Executive Director. The Development Manager will work closely with all departments and manage the Development department.
This position is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive, growth-oriented annual fundraising plan with categories including grants, major donor cultivation and stewardship, individual giving, institutional giving, and events. Contributed income exceeds $1.4M.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
Fund Development (45%)
- Develop and coordinate bulk mailings for major fund drives
- Manage Raiser’s Edge donor database and generate reports to track fundraising effectiveness
- Maintain and enhance institutional giving vehicles, including workplace giving, peer-to-peer fundraising pages, and car donations programs,
- Keep abreast of industry trends and possible new revenue sources
- Expand Real Change’s 1,300+ individual donor base through donor development, expanded reader support, and increased mail and on-line giving
- Develop and manage Board fundraising committee to engage board members and other volunteers in Real Change fundraising. Provide fundraising training materials for board and committee members
- Work with other departments to ensure the development perspective is represented in decisions related to volunteer management, marketing, advocacy, and the newspaper
Management and Administration (30%)
- Develop and ensure implementation of annual Communications and Development plans
- Create and manage Revenue, Communications, and Development budgets
- Coordinate and collaborate with department heads to ensure program priorities, calls to action, and community engagement opportunities are represented externally
- Periodically write organizational updates, letters to community, and op-eds in Real Change newspaper
- Update RC donation webpage, receipts and acknowledgment letters in coordination with fund drives
- Oversee donor reconciliation with Development and Communications Coordinator and Office Manager
Event Management (15%)
- Management and execution of Real Change’s annual fundraising event and community engagement events.
- Plan and execute stewardship activities and events that promote donor retention and acquisition.
Other Duties (10%)
- Hire, train, and supervise program staff, interns, volunteers and vendor leaders; actively support employee growth and development and conduct evaluations
- Build and develop relationships with vendors to better support the community we serve
- Support operation of the Vendor Center as assigned, including truck unload and/or sales desk
- Other activities as assigned
Required Skills

- Computer proficiency with CRM databases (such as Raiser’s Edge), basic graphic design programs, and other office technology

- Strong time management & ability to communicate and hold others to firm deadlines, with a willingness to work until the job is done
- Ability to manage donor acknowledgement processes and donor relations
- Ability to track, compile, report on, and analyze donor data

Compensation: Salary range is $70,000-75,000/year; this position is salaried non-exempt. Benefit package includes Health and Dental coverage, 3 weeks’ vacation, 2 weeks’ sick time, 11 holidays, 403(b) Retirement Fund with a 4% Real Change contribution, and professional development funds.
